5.5.2010 The Real 3D year 2 review meeting takes place in Lausanne hosted by EPFL, with a technical presentation from each consortium member, and seven live demonstrations. These were of (i) a dual-wavelength reflection-mode digital holographic microscope with increased depth range, (ii) two-axis holographic tomography for microscopic specimens, (iii) infrared holographic detection and measurement of defects within silicon microstructures, (iv) a compact hologram sensing device for macroscopic 3D objects, (v) simultaenous stereo and motion parallax presentation of digital hologram reconstructions of real-world objects using a head-tracking conventional stereoscopic display, (vi) LCOS-based optoelectronic reconstruction of holograms of real-world 3D objects with simultaneous horizontal and vertical parallax, and (vii) real-time calculation of computer-generated hologram video and optoelectronic reconstruction using LCoS technology.

26.4.2010 Research results from a collaboration between INOA-CNR and Oulu has been chosen as the cover artwork for today's issue of Optics Express.

12.4.2010 Real 3D is represented comprehensively at the SPIE Photonics Europe symposium, Brussels, Belgium. INOA-CNR and WUT serve on the programme committee for the conference Optical Micro- and Nanometrology, where INOA-CNR also makes a presentation. Elsewhere at the symposium, WUT presents at the Optics, Photonics and Digital Technologies for Multimedia Applications conference, EPFL presents at the Biophotonics: Photonic Solutions for Better Health Care conference, and EPFL also presents at the Silicon Photonics and Photonic Integrated Circuits conference.

5.4.2010 Real 3D has a high profile at the Three-Dimensional Imaging, Visualization, and Display 2010 conference, Orlando, USA, with Bilkent making the invited keynote presentation and Oulu presenting both an invited and a contributed paper.

31.3.2010 Article on Real 3D published in this month's issue of trade journal Holography News (Reconnaissance International publishers) entitled "Real 3D aims for real-time digital holography."

31.3.2010 The Real 3D year 2 annual report to the European Commission consists of approximately 1300 pages of administration and technical documents.

15.3.2010 Final paperwork approved at the Commission level for HOLOEYE Photonics AG to officially join the Real 3D as the ninth consortium member (accession date 1.9.2010). HOLOEYE's role includes contributing to the technical development, integration, and evaluation of the project outputs.

4.2.2010 Real 3D cooperates with other EC-funded cooperative projects as part of a 3D, Immersive, Interactive Media Cluster at a concertation meeting in Brussels, Belgium. Oulu attends the meeting and Bilkent co-leads the Cluster.

1.2.2010 On the second anniversary of the start of the Real 3D project the cumulative technical/scientific outputs include 4 patent applications filed or planned, 19 journal articles, 8 invited conference publications, and 47 contributed conference publications.

10.12.2009 Real 3D discusses cooperation possibilities in the area of networking future three-dimensional media with FP7-funded project ALPHA (Architectures for fLexible Photonic Home and Access networks) at a meeting in Oulu.

10.12.2009 During 2009, Real 3D consortium members have published several papers in some of the most prestigious international scientific journals in optics, including three papers in Optics Express (ranked no. 3 by impact factor in optics) from INOA-CNR, four papers in Optics Letters (ranked no. 4 by impact factor in optics) from INOA-CNR and NUIM, and one paper in Applied Physics Letters (the most highly cited journal in applied physics) from INOA-CNR. 1.12.2009 Real 3D is invited to present an overview of holography and digital holography to complete a programme highlighting relevant future technologies at 3D Stereo MEDIA, the International 3D Stereo Film and Technology Festival, held in Lige, Belgium. WUT makes the invited presentation "Holographic imaging: a mysterious discipline - what is it really? What is the state-of-the-art?" to an audience of scientists, industrialists, filmmakers, journalists, and the general public. Bilkent and Oulu contribute some material to the presenatation.

15.10.2009 Real 3D contributes to the two-day 3D Media Workshop in Berlin organised by the Fraunhofer HHI.

4.10.2009 Bilkent invited to speak about "Research trends in holographic 3DTV displays" at the Annual Meeting of the IEEE Photonics Society, Belek-Antalya, Turkey. INOA-CNR chairs session 3D Imaging and Holography.

28.9.2009 Oulu is the invited speaker for the Holography for 3D Imaging session at the EOS Topical Meeting on Optical Microsystems, Capri, Italy. INOA-CNR co-chairs the conference, and presents Real 3D research results there along with EPFL and WUT.

27.9.2009 Real 3D presented its progress at the European Commission Networked Media Concertation Meeting of the 3D Media Cluster, St. Malo, France. Bilkent co-leads the Cluster.

25.9.2009 Real 3D holds a two-day annual meeting in Capri, Italy.

13.9.2009 Real 3D plays a major role in FRINGE 2009 - The 6th International Workshop on Advanced Optical Metrology, Nürtingen, Germany. WUT co-chairs the meeting, INOA-CNR and Oulu serve on the programme committee, and BIAS, INOA-CNR, NUIM, and Oulu present papers.

19.8.2009 Bilkent presents a key-note presentation on "3D imaging systems" at the China-Ireland International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies, Maynooth, Ireland. NUIM presents contributed papers.

20.7.2009 INOA-CNR, NUIM, and Oulu are invited to present their Real 3D research results at the Euro American Workshop on Information Optics, Paris, France.

14.6.2009 WUT and INOA-CNR co-chair the SPIE Europe Optical Metrology conference at which Real 3D research results are presented.

14.6.2009 Real 3D research results are presented at the European Conferences on Biomedical Optics, Munich, Germany, at which EPFL co-chairs conference Novel Optical Instrumentation for Biomedical Applications.

4.5.2009 Bilkent chairs another highly successful 3DTV Conference 2009, Potsdam, Germany. BIAS presents a paper, and Bilkent presents two papers, on the consortium's work.

29.4.2009 Real 3D presented its progress at the European Commission's 3D Media Cluster Meeting, Antwerp, Belgium. Bilkent co-leads the Cluster.

26.4.2009 Consortium members present a total of 8 papers at the premier international digital holography conference OSA Digital Holography and Three-Dimensional Imaging, Vancouver, Canada.

20.4.2009 Consortium members present research results at SPIE Europe Optics + Optoelectronics, Prague, Czech Republic.

15.4.2009 Oulu presents an invited paper on the Real 3D project to the 3D display communities from Europe, USA, and Asia at the SPIE conference Three-Dimensional Imaging, Visualization, and Display 2009, Orlando, USA.

17.3.2009 The Real 3D year 1 review meeting takes place in Brussels.

4.3.2008 The Real 3D kick-off meeting took place in Helsinki during 3-4 March 2008.

1.2.2008 The Real 3D project officially starts.

23.1.2008 The Real 3D project will be funded. The signed grant agreement from the European Commission has been received. The project (categorised as a STREP - small or medium-scale focused research project) has been funded through Call 1 of Framework Programme 7, and will run from 1.2.2008 for 36 months. There are eight Beneficiaries, from a total of seven countries. The project has funding of 5.9M€, consisting of contributions of 4.5M€ from the European Commission, 1M€ national funding, and 0.4M€ from industry. The project abstract is publicly available.
